LIMITED EDITION Scandia Junior Dining Chair | 65 Year Anniversary | Rosewood
The Scandia Collection is one of the highlights in Norwegian and Scandinavian design heritage, made in Fjordfiest's own factory in Norway.
Hans Brattrud designed the Scandia Junior chair in 1957 as a student project at the National College of Art & Design in Oslo. Brattrud’s aim was to create a three-dimensionally shaped chair using moulded slats and different two-dimensional forms.
The design was revolutionary both in shape and expression. The chair immediately won worldwide recognition. At the Deutsche Handwerksmesse in 1967 Brattrud received the gold medal from the Bavarian State Government for Scandia Junior. The same year the chair also received The Award for Design Excellence from the Norwegian Design Council.
The Scandia Junior is a stackable dining chair, created in laminated lacquered oak or walnut. Using horizontal ribs, a two-dimensional laminated form was hung and made three-dimensionally. This was an ingenious construction, which is also a unique and timeless design.
The iconic chair celebrated its 65 years anniversary in 2022 and Fjordfiesta celebrated this by launching a limited edition Scandia junior in FSC certified palisander (rosewood). The palisander is from approved plantations in Bolivia and the chairs are specially marked.
