Gear Collection | Square Coffee Table | Various Colours
Designed by Kristian Sofus Hansen and Tommy Hyldahl (2021)
The Gear Square table come with a square tabletop, resting on top of three cylinder shaped legs. The three legs are positioned differently, making the table appear interesting from all angles and allowing for captivating shadow plays when lights pass through them.
The Gear series draws its inspiration from the 1950s architectural movement of Brutalism, characterised by its geometric forms and raw concrete surfaces. Reimagining brutalist architecture into furniture but aiming to soften its otherwise perceived harsh expression. With grooves in the table legs creating shadow effects depending on the lighting that falls upon them, adding a dynamic element.
Created in raw concrete as the primary material, just like brutalist buildings were decades ago. To soften the harsh expression of the material, the concrete has been coloured to add nuances and infuse tactility into the design. The Gear table is crafted by hand through a 9-step manufacturing process, showcasing the precision of skilled craftsmanship. In the final stages, each table is hand-painted, rendering it a unique piece where the expression varies.
